Obituary

William John Barrett, born February 6, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. Passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on September 28, 2018. he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Verna Barrett, his son Michael Barrett, sisters Betty Morine and Sue Gil, brother Daniel Barrett and brother in law Richard Morine. He is survived by his loving daughter Shelley Barrett and her wife Kelley Johnson, his brother Robert Barrett, his grandson Timothy Barrett and his wife Jen Barrett and great granddaughters Sadie and Julia Barrett. He also leaves behind his loving partner of 17 years, Dot Lewis and her family, Richard, Pam and Nolie.


Bill attended Brooklyn Technical, served in the Army, married Verna and started his professional life as a land surveyor and Civil Engineer. During his 60 plus year professional career he was the founding partner of Barrett, Bonacci and Van Weele, P.C., A life member of the New York State Association of Professional Surveyors and past President and Life Member of Nassau Suffiolk Civil Engineers. Although he appreciated these professional achievements, Bill loved to participate in the Dad's Club, attend Michael and Shelley's athletic events, play golf with Verna and their awesome group of friends and play with his grandson. Bill was a true blue New Yorker. Born in Brooklyn, bred in Oceanside, raised a family in Massapequa and retired in Medford. Not only was he passionate about his work and family, but also about his friends, the Mets and the perfect Manhattan. We will miss him dearly.


Join us for Celebration of Life services on Wednesday October 3, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM & 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the McManus-Lorey Funeral Home 2084 Horseblock Rd. Medford, NY 11763.
