PORTS, Viola (nee Pedrick):  86 years young, Nan was called home on January 25, 2022.  A life-long Long Islander, born June 6th in Babylon, NY, she was proud to be the devoted wife of Douglas for the last 67 years.  Known to many as Nan, mom, grandma, and Gigi, those who knew her understood she was a simple woman who wanted nothing more than for everyone to be happy and emulated that with her own smile.  Nan was a small but had a huge heart and even larger smile – she lit up the room.   Her smile and the love she embodied was manifest in the way she lived.   Early in her adulthood, Nan immersed herself into Scouting, being the founding leader of Girl Scout Troop 874 for 9 years where young girls learned the value of camaraderie though many activities including camping and hiking.   Nan's love transcended traditional family.   Her love for animals remained evident in her home as she adopted many dogs and cats over the years.   Nan is survived by her doting husband, Doug; her five children Dawn Clowes (Mike); Vicki Payne (David); Douglas Jr. (Gail); Kenneth (Patti); Wendy (Nancy); her 11 Grand Children; her 14 Great Grand Children, and her three cats.  Visitation at McManus Funeral Home, Horseblock Road, Medford Thursday 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Mass Friday, January 28 at Church of the Resurrection, Granny Road, Farmingville.  Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  Since mom believed the cost of flowers "could feed a family of 4", in lieu of flowers, please bring non perishable food items.   Donations collected will be delivered to the Food Pantry at Church of the Resurrection Or donate in her name to Church of the Resurrection Food Pantry.
