It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roland J. Gorton Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and esteemed Deputy Chief of the FDNY, who departed this life peacefully on August 29, 2026, at the age of 99. Born on April 28, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, Roland lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and a profound commitment to serving his community.Roland proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during World War II, exemplifying the courage and integrity for which he would be known throughout his life. After his military service, he joined the ranks of the FDNY, where he devoted an impressive 40 years to protecting the lives and properties of the citizens of New York City, culminating in his role as Deputy Chief in the 48th Battalion 10th Division. His contributions to the fire service have left an enduring impact on the lives of those he worked alongside and the community he loved.He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through his children: Michael Gorton, Sr., Frances Kyle, Kathleen Nicholas, Maryann Cicchetti, Roland Gorton, III, Stephen Gorton, and Brian Gorton. Additionally, he is survived by his cherished daughters-in-law, Patricia Gorton, Ann Gorton, Joan Gorton, and son-in-law James Nicholas, who all appreciated his wisdom and guidance throughout their lives. Roland was also a proud grandfather to his grandchildren: Rachel Komlos, Michael Gorton, Jr., Alyssa Kyle, Timothy Gorton, Matthew Gorton, Michael Cicchetti, Sarah Nicholas, Brandon Gorton, Stephen Gorton, Jr., Kristen Gorton, John Komlos, Melissa Gorton, and Carmel Gorton, as well as his great-grandchildren, Leah Komlos, Joseph Munoz, Gabriel Gorton, Clare Gorton, and Owen Gorton. All arrangements have been entrusted to his grandson, Michael with McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, Medford, NY. A public viewing will be held in his honor at Clavin Funeral Home, 7722 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11209 on September 1, 2026, at 4:00 PM through 8:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to pay their respects and share memories of a life well-lived. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Angels R.C. Church, 7320 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11209 on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the time has not been confirmed yet. Roland will be laid to rest with his wife Agnes following his funeral mass in Cemetery of the Resurrection, 361 Sharrott Ave, Staten Island, NY 10309, where he will be honored for his unwavering service, dedication, and love for his family and community.As we remember Roland J.
