John Maggio, 83, of Holtsville, N.Y. passed away on June 3, 2016 just 5 weeks after his beloved wife of 61 years, Pauline Maggio. Father of Gerald (Joan), Stephen (Shelley), and Lisa DeTroia (Andrew). Grandfather of Stephanie (Tim), Eric, David, Michael, Emily, Christopher, Olivia and Dana.

Born November 11, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to Stefano and Maria Maggio, he was the youngest of 5. Being born on Veterans Day, Johnny didn't realize the holiday as a young boy and thought the celebrations were for him. Perhaps this encouraged him to join the Air Force where he was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo.

John started his career in computer science on Wall Street, but because Pauline was a country girl she didn't want to raise her future children in the city. They moved to Bay Shore where John worked in the defense industry at Fairchild-Republic Industries. John spent many years coaching his children's baseball teams, teaching them playing golf, and helping with the scouts. In retirement, John traveled with Pauline when he wasn't visiting his children and grandchildren.

John was an avid reader and history buff. More recently he would spend hours on his word search puzzles when we wasn't on his recumbent bike. John's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and family. The phone calls always started with "How are my grandchildren" and ended with "Give my grandchildren a hug and a kiss."
