Obituary

Jean Sands – (July 9, 1928 – August 16, 2025) Formerly of Bellport, N.Y. and West Palm Beach, Fla. Jean was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. the oldest daughter of Rose and Joseph Bloomfield. She married "The Love of Her Life" Joel Sands on November 22, 1950. They were together just short of 66 years until Joel's passing on November 17, 2016. After they were married Jean and Joel moved out of state for several years before moving to Patchogue, N.Y. where Joel taught music until his retirement. In 1957 they moved to 36 Bieselin Road, Bellport where they raised their two sons. Jean worked for many years for Pasco Pharmaceuticals in Patchogue and then Sayville. Upon her retirement they purchased a condominium in West Palm Beach and became snowbirds until 2010 when they sold their home in Bellport and became full time Floridians. In 2016 they returned to Long Island due to medical issues. Jean and family were long time members of Temple Beth-El in Patchogue. She was an active member of both The Daughters of Israel (Sisterhood) and Hadassah. She loved playing Mah-Jong with her friends Molly Jankowitz, Sylvia Salsberg, Rhea Chaskin-Salsberg and Mary Ambrose. She also loved spending time with family and friends, hosting gatherings for Hanukkah, Passover, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, and July 4th. Jean was predeceased by her husband Joel, Sisters Jeri Adelman, and Diane Seltzer. She is survived by Sons Mark (Kathy) and Steven (Magdeline). Granddaughters Rebecca Bliss (Mathew) and Debra Bigelow (Mark) and four Great-Grandchildren, Connor, Miles, Clark, and Lilith. Interment will take place at the Patchogue Hebrew Cemetery on August 20th. We will meet at 10:30 AM at the McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, 2084 Horseblock Road, Medford, NY 11763 and proceed to the cemetery. The cemetery is located at 208-212 Peconic Ave Holtsville, NY. The graveside service will begin between 10:45 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Temple Beth-El in Patchogue.
