Obituary

James Patrick Farrelly, 88 years young, passed away on February 13,2026.

Jim was born in Brooklyn to Rose Tierney and Thomas Farrelly on July 13,1937.

After graduating from St. Francis Prep High School in 1955, Jim joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served in the Corps for six years, the last 3 in Foreign Service as an Embassy guard in Buenos Aires Argentina. Upon discharge he went on to graduate from the University of New York at Albany.

After settling back on Long Island, Jim was employed as a Suffolk County Probation Officer. He served in that position for 28 years until his retirement in 1995. In retirement he enjoyed hiking, biking, swimming and travel. He was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. He studied Spanish, practiced Yoga, attempted to learn how to juggle, and play the harmonica and penny whistle. He was a puppy raiser for the Guide Dog Foundation and volunteered for the Patchogue Rotary Animal Assisted Therapy program,  bringing his beloved companion Joey to visit patients at Mather Hospital.

Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years Virginia (Digilio), his son Brett, his grandchildren Benjamin and Bella, as well as his sister Margaret Nolan, his dear friend Dorothy Giuffre, and his fuzzy girl Rosie.
