Carmine Persiani of Medford, NY was received into the loving embrace of our Lord on June 20, 2011, surrounded by his family and friends. Born on March 20, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Anthony and Nancy (Avitable) Persiani and the husband to the late Irene (Del Gardo) Persiani.
Carmine was a graduate of City College of New York, with a degree in chemistry. He later went on to receive his Masters degree from C.W. Post College. Shortly thereafter he joined the US Army and served as a Corporal from 1953 through 1955.
He and his wife Irene were married in 1958 and made their home in Commack, NY with their four children. In his career as a Chemist, Carmine worked for Brookhaven National Laboratory, Republic Aviation and, GTE-Sylvania. In 1972 the family relocated to Milford, MA while he was working for GTE-Sylvania and resided there until 1985. He then returned to Long Island and finished his career with Northrop Grumman. Throughout his career, Carmine authored numerous publications and was awarded several patents in his industry.
During his retirement, Carmine spent his time with his children, grandchildren and did volunteer work in soup kitchens, the church consignment shop and his local condominium community. He was a communicant of St. Sylvester's RC Church in Medford, NY. In addition to his wife Irene, he was preceded in death by his sister Elsie Cirillo and her husband Rocky.
He was the loving father of: Denise Wells and her husband John of Woburn, MA, Jeanette DeSantis and her husband Bob of East Patchogue, NY, Geraldine McAndrew and her husband Michael of Medford, NY, and Anthony Persiani and his wife Sarahbeth of Millbury, MA. Carmine was the adored grandfather of Timothy, Kevin, and Rachel Wells, Alyssa, Emily and Bobby DeSantis, Elizabeth McAndrew, and Chloe Persiani. He also is further survived by his beloved cousin Mildred Sinkowsky, numerous other cousins, and several nieces and nephews.
Carmine was a humble man and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He lived each day as an unwavering and faithful steward in service to his faith.
Family and friends are invited to call at McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, 2084 Horseblock Road, Medford, NY, on Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday, June 24, 2011, at 9:45 a.m. from St. Sylvester's RC Church, Medford, NY.
